Two years after Seth and Summer's wedding, Ryan and Taylor are happily engaged after a night of passion where Ryan pops the question to an excited Taylor. Heeding Sandy's advice, after 4 years at his firm, Ryan goes back to school to get his masters and ends up being the T.A. of a course where he meets Adelaide, a sophomore student who frighteningly resembles his dead lover, Marissa. Intrigued, Ryan begins digging up information about her and learns she is the daughter of a divorced stock broker and socialite just transferred from NYU. As his unhealthy fascination with the girl increases, his relationship with Taylor wanes in the process. Meanwhile, after accepting a job as a exterior decorator, Anna arrives in Newport and decides to visit her friends Seth and Summer. And with her, she has brought her fiance. Seth and Summer are surprised to find that Anna's fiance is none other than celebrity, Grady Bridges. Jealousy sparks between Grady and Seth, and an absolutely outrageous battle of wits, chivalry and geekdom beak out between them.
